Question: Could my daughter homeschool herself?

well my daughter just went to a new school her 8th grade year and shes not enjoying it at all! Is there anyway she could home-school herself? I don't have the time to teach her and I don't have the money for one of those private online programs. If there is a way, how can she get started and what exactly does she have to do. Does she get mailed worksheets, textbooks, anything like that. How exactly does this work. And will she be able to enter school again for her 9th grade year at a high school! PLEASE HELP! I have no idea how to get her started! A step by step to how you got your child started would be greatly appreciated! And how are they doing with Homeschooling themselves? Anything too challenging?

Answer: To get mailed books and work, you'd have to join a correspondence program, which would probably cost more than an internet program because of all the postage.

Homeschoolers can of course return to school... but how depends on the state. In my state, they have to take a placement test and are placed accordingly. There is no garauntee of getting in the grade you expected to be in.

I got my child started by taking her out and starting to educate her at home... my other kids never went to school.

Sure there is a lot of independent work that kids can do... you don't have to be on top of them constantly. You don't have to sit at the table and give lectures or write notes on a board.

But you do have to be involved and checking up and all, kind of facilitate their activities & studies.

If you can't afford a program to do it all for you, you have to take the responsibility to guide her education, but that's not the same thing as sitting with her at the table all day.

It's probably not as time consuming as you think it will be. You can even buy used pre-packaged curricula that lays it all out for you.
