Question: I am addicted to the internet. please help!!!!?

it's not as easy as "just turn your computer off" for me. i'm 16 years old, and when i get up in the morning, i go pee, then i get on the internet while i eat breakfast. then i pretend to be doing my schoolwork (homeschool myself) until my parents leave for work, and i'm back on the computer until they get home at 6 pm. i feel, i if i had no internet access, i would exercise more (for something to do) and wouldn't weigh 180. i wouldn't be 2 mo. behind in my schoolwork, i wouldn't be tempted to download illegally, go to dirty websites, and lie about everything online, and maybe i would get my life back on track and start having daily devotions with God again. i came up with a plan, and that would be give my internet card to my parents every night, and they hide it or take it with them to work (i have my own laptop). when they get home, i get the card back and am allowed 1 hr. online with their supervision. but i just don't know if i can take that step. HELP!!!!!!

Answer: There is nothing wrong with using the internet. The internet is a vast world of knowledge, and let's face it....it's pretty fun, too. However, when you are addicted to it, and you are going to sites that are bad, then you have a problem.

I think that you should talk to your parents about your problem and do exactly what you described. Maybe start off with 2 hours, and gradually wean yourself down to one. Figure out what you MUST do every day online, whether it be Myspace or YA, or whatever. Allow yourself time to do that, stay away from the bad sites (put up a parental filter if need be), and you'll be okay.
