Question: if you know about Homeschooling?

I went to school my freshman year, but now I want to homeschool, If you know a good program that invovles learning on a cd or dvd please let me know what you reccomend, and if I homeschool will I have to take credits (I'm from Texas btw, and I know theres some kind of laws)
but will I have to take speech and like the PE credits and all those electives and credits were supposed to have in Homeschooling or do I not have to take them at all?

Thank you for your help

Answer: Texas has some of the easiest Homeschool Laws. You have to take math, spelling, reading, grammar and citizenship. PE is not listed as a homeschool requirement. But it would look good on your transcript. You can complete PE requirements by playing on a sports team, bicycling, or any other physical activity. The rule of thumb for creating your own curriculum is 150 hours of "work" equals 1 credit. Work does not necessarily mean studying a book or doing calisthenics. When my kids go on scout activities and they are hiking for 6 hours, that is 6 hours toward their PE credit. When we watched the Olympics, the time spent counted toward our PE credit. When they are cycling with friends, that also counts as PE.
As for a good program on CD, I highly recommend Switched on Schoolhouse. It is a Bible Based Curriculum. All your work is done on the Computer. Once you load the application disk on your Computer, install the subject disks the set up wizard walks you through assigning the subjects, setting up your school year and you are good to go. You log into your school work daily and do what ever is assigned for the day. In addition to lesson that you read from your computer screen, the program includes video clips, slide presentations, and tiny tutors to enhance the learning. There are also games to help you study spelling, vocabulary and to review for tests. After reading the lesson, you answer the questions. About 90% of the work is graded as you go. Your parents only have to grade essays and reports. You can print a variety of detailed reports of your progress. My boys have used SOS since grade 3. My oldest is a Senior and my youngest is in grade 8. SOS offers 5 core subjects, and a wide variety of high school electives.
A great Math Program on CD-Rom is TEaching Textbooks. We have used it for the Algebra classes. It is also very thorough. and my oldest son loves this program.
