Question: Help with Special ED home school laws? Please?

I have a child in Special ED and I am trying to sign him up for Homeschooling. He is in the 9th grade and law requires you have a Bach. degree to homeschool 9-12. I only have an Assoc. degree but his current skills are only about 3-4 grade level. (He is capable of so much more, the reason i am removing him and wanting to school myself) I am not getting answers from the BOE about doing this, if anyone can help with some legalities on how i can remove him from school, any way possible. He is 15and we live in Tennessee if that helps. thanks in advance!

Answer: I would say look into the possibility of an at-home type program through a "Church related school". (See http://tnhomeed.com/HSLaw.html and scroll down to the "Three options for Homeschooling".) Check with Tennessee or more local Homeschooling groups to find out more about this and which schools do this.

Question: Finding the right home school program for me?

My names sara im 18 and I live in texas. I have been having a really hard time trying to finish school, because I get sick a lot. I had to leave my school and I tried Homeschooling for a little while..when that didn't work well I found a school near my home that worked almost like paces except they were called modules..and it was a public school. I amcurrentlyy still attending this school andgettinggcreditss. But I would really like to graduate so im looking for a homeschoolingg program where I can get mycreditss finished in the summer. I am leaning more towards accelerated christian education because I am morefamiliarr with it. But anything would be find something as Cheap as possible we don't have alot of money.programss that cost $300...&400..free if possible. are just way to much and we cannot fit that into arebudgett. thanks for the help -sara

Answer: When I was a high school registrar our school's counselors referred some students to the BYU Independent Study program. The total cost will depend on how many units you will be needing. Their high school courses are $124 per .5 unit.

You may also want to look into the American School Independent Study Division. Depending on the courses you need to take it can run $100 and up. You will need to get your school counselor to help you enroll in order to have the credit applied to their transcript.

The K12 program is free but TX only offers classes up to grade 9.

Add: I just learned about a program offered by Texas Tech University. They offer courses for grades 9 - 12 for $100 per .5 - unit. They also offer CBE (Credit by Exam) for $30 per exam.
