Question: Homeschooling Questions?
I am still debating on Homeschooling.
1. Is there something that I can use to make sure my child is progressing,
2. Can i perform testing every 3 years on my own for my kids?
3 Which test is probably better for elementary 3rd and 5th grader?
4. If I am not able to afford curriculum right now can i start with material from internet (worksheets, online learning websites, library),etc;?
5. I would like to get involved with co-ops, but only see one in my area, how can I find more?
6. What times do most Homeschooling usually start?
State of Georgia
Answer: 1) Your own observations should tell you an awful lot. You might also be able to have your kids take the regular annual tests that are required of children in mainstream school.
2) See #1 and check with someone in your district to see what is required or you.
3) This is going to depend very much on the children and parents involved.
4) Plenty of people not only start like that, but continue like that for as long as they wish. Homeschooling doesn't have to be expensive and it doesn't require expensive textbooks or pre-packaged curricula to be successful. If you really, really want a curriculum or textbooks, see if you can borrow books from your district (some will allow it and it never hurts to ask) or if you can buy or borrow used materials from other local homeschoolers. You can also look online for used books, but personally I wouldn't buy used texts or curriculum materials without looking through them to make sure they aren't horribly damaged first.
5) Look in other areas, check online, ask someone at the co-op you know if they know of other co-ops...
6) Whenever you want. Homeschooling is very flexible and you can set your own schedule.
