Question: How do you create a structured literature/English Homeschool Curriculum for the high school grades?

This is something I don't understand. I have always used an accredited curriculum, but for high school, I plan to mostly do my own books and materials. I already have a reading list, but with the exception of Sparknotes, how are you supposed to obtain structured lesson manuals, essay topics, basically a real curriculum for these books? Novels, and dramas/plays specifically. For example, if you are homeschooled, and reading a book like Great Expectations or Crime and Punishment, you are basically on your own with analyzing it, getting assignment for it, etc. What do other people, like you guys, do for this kind of situation in high school? I've tried a detailed search for curriculum for specific books and found nothing besides literary criticisms/sparknotes type things. Thank you for explaining.

Answer: Take a look at The Glencoe Literature Library. For each book you choose there is a study guide. The study guide might include such things as: Meet the Author, Introduction of the Novel, Focus Activity, Vocabulary Preview and Analyzing Literature. I've posted the link to their Great Expectation study guide as an example.

If you want some really serious studying try Open Culture. They provide links to free university level literature, and other, courses. Many universities, like MIT, now offer free open course ware (OCW). Do a Google search for "free university literature open course ware". You'll be surprised at how much is out there.

Good Luck!
