Question: Can anyone provide me information on Homeschooling?

In particular, those who have homeschooled. Basically I have a 2 1/2 year old son and I plan on Homeschooling. Is now the right time to start? Also what kinds of things can I teach him now that will help build his creativity and interest for the future? Basically any links, information, book recommendations, even personal experiences would be welcomed. Thanks for any help.

Answer: At this age, you shouldn't be doing anything differently than a parent who plans on school for their child. Children this age don't need a formal educational experience. They should learn through play. Read to your child. Count objects in the enviornment or count the things you do, like each step as you climb stairs. Talk to your son. Take him on age appropriate outings, to the zoo, to the aquarium, to the library for story time. Encourage him to do activities that will improve his fine motor skills. They will be important later for learning to write. Some good ones are playing with playdo, building with duplo blocks (the larger legos), finger painting, sidewalk chalk, and drawing/coloring with markers or any other instrument, but don't worry about staying in the lines and making it look "right" at this age. Talk to him about the things you see at those places. Join a mommy and me, or in your case daddy and me :-) , play group or swimming class.

Here are a couple of links to sites I like, but also google "preschool resources home school" it will bring you to lots of home friendly resources. But also don't be afraid of the sites that seem to be geared more at school or teachers. Often they have great ideas that you can modify.
