Question: Where can I find free lesson plans and Homeschooling curriculum for my first grader?

We (my wife and I) have decided to homeschool our 6 year old after we had some trouble with public school but she excelled at home. I need to find some free resources that have lesson plans and curriculum for first grade. I have already looked for free online schools and have not found any in TN but if you could make suggestions for those as well I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any help that you can give. If you have questions please feel free to e-mail me. Thanks again.

Answer: Try the public library! We found lots of Homeschooling resources at ours and eventually bought copies of some that we liked and used a lot. "Making the Grade: Everything Your 1st Grader Needs to Know" is a general curriculum that we found at our library, with ideas for lessons in all the basic subject areas. There are others there, too.

Also, we found that it is easy to teach many subjects (especially reading, science, and social studies) using the vast array of books and videos in the children's section of our public library. (And if your library doesn't have what you need, most will be able to borrow it from another library using interlibrary loan). Librarians may also be able to help get you in touch with other homeschoolers (who may have old curriculum to sell or give away).

Some public schools will give away books that they don't want anymore. We got old math books this way; for first grade they are in a workbook format and were several years old, but math doesn't really change, does it? So we got math curriculum for free this way. Also try thrift stores and garage sales for low cost materials.

Online, we found www.worldbook.com to be a great resource. Under parent resources they have a "typical course of study" section that gives lists for each grade of the sorts of things usually taught at that level. The lists can give you ideas on where to start for doing it yourself.

And discount stores like Walmart, as well as bookstores, often have inexpensive comprehensive workbooks that can do well for a first grader.

I would recommend getting curriculum for math and phonics, if she's not an excellent reader yet. Otherwise, you can give her a great education using library materials along with ideas from worldbook.com And if you want a comprehensive workbook for insurance (if she likes workbooks), you'll be all set....

Good luck....

math homeschool curriculum
Question: Can I do this???

i'm finishing up my sophmore year and i didn't get much out of algebra 2, kinda bad and i feel so stupid but my teacher doesn't have great teaching skills. I'm looking at being a registured nursae, i need to know my math. I homeschool, by the way. i was thinking maybe i can either take algebra 2 one semester or geometery the second semester or I can find a curriculum that offers both and i cand get the basic important stuff i need to know in each geometery and algebra 2. if you know of a curriculum let me know? and has anybody gone through college and became a nurse and was horrible in math? thanks

Answer: You really need those math skills. If your not getting what you need from your current teacher, you need to find someone else. It is ver hard to teach these subjects to yourself. Find a tutor, a friend, or a new teacher.

Good Luck
