Elementary Homeschool Curriculum
![]() |

Question: I want to homeschool my child? How do I get started?
My son is 7 years old and is entering 2nd grade this coming Fall. There's no good public education in my local area. He was attending a private school last semester, however, I can no longer afford it. I would rather homeschool him at this time. I prefer the Abeka curriculum over others. Are there any government grants out there that would support my decision to homeschool my son?? What are the best sites to order educational materials to support this type of education? Are there any websites or online accredited elementary schools out there that would be a great resource for this decision?? Are there any state guidelines? I currently reside in the state of Missouri but contemplating a move to Houston, TX early next year.
Answer: You should contact the Home Schooling Association of America.
Here in Canada I went to the local school board and they gave me the Canadian Associations e mail. The students still have to pass the same exams as the other children in the area, who are attending the public schools.
With all the problems in the schools - especially the attitude of some teachers - I think it is wise to home-school these days.
Good luck.
