Question: Homeschool Books, etc for 14y/o on law, psychology & business?
i'm fourteen years old and am starting homeschool on tuesday. i would like to read up a lot on law, psychology and business because these are the three most likely career paths i want to follow and i want to read more on them to decide which i would most like to get into. however, a lot of these books are written in quite complicated language. i can read as well as any adult but if it's using complicated terms that aren't for people that don't know anything about the subject it wouldn't be suitable.
any ideas? oh, and i need it to be british! preferably with a shop i can buy it from but online is okay too. thanks!
thank you for the suggestion. i simply meant a book that is written at a-level level or something that would be used as a textbook or whatever rather than a book containing just the law with no explaination of it. i want something that breaks the law down sort of thing. and all the books are for is to read through and such, not to do any exams in them. thanks again!
Answer: You could try searching a site such as Amazon or Waterstones for ideas; ask the schools' librarian at your local library; or look at the lists of recommended texts on various school sites etc such as Oxford Homeschool:
Business: http://www.oxfordhomeschooling.co.uk/Alevel/BusinessStudiesALevel.htm
Psychology: http://www.oxfordhomeschooling.co.uk/Alevel/PsychologyALevel.htm
Law: http://www.oxfordhomeschooling.co.uk/Alevel/LawALevel.htm
Or check out the various educational publishers sites for book ideas (arranged by subject and level), for example: http://www.oup.com/oxed/secondary/business/

Question: How to take a legal route out of Homeschooling?
I have asked questions before on how to convince my parents to go to public school and i have done everything that was told me about convincing them, writing a list of bad things about homeschool and good things about public school, telling them i will make friends that way, etc. etc. and they still say no way will i ever step foot near one (literally). There is no way to convince my parents and i cannot take Homeschooling anymore. I am literally never around kids my age anymore except at scouts. They took me out of church and dance class for no apparent reason, and i am now hated at boyscouts because they know i am homeschooled and no one else there is. My parents told me they don't care if i'm around kids or not, that being with them 24/7 and being safe is more important. The only thing left to do is take a legal route out. Where should i start? What are the laws for Homeschooling in georgia?
I literally feel like killing myself everyday because i am never around kids.
Answer: I'm afraid you are not going to get a very sympathetic or helpful response in this thread. Most likely you will get blamed and told it's your fault for not making more effort to get out, when if what you are saying is true, your parents are isolating you. Take a walk to your old church and talk to your pastor ASAP. If it's true that your parents are keeping you away from church, dance etc., then they are keeping you in a box. Make an appointment with your pediatrician. Talk to your pediatrician about what seems to be depression. Your feelings need to be taken seriously! These people can help counsel your parents on the importance of being with others. They are what we call "mandated reporters" and can put pressure on your parents to allow you to have a normal social life. They can't force your parents to allow you to go to school, because Homeschooling is neither neglectful nor abusive. But isolating you is and they can advise them that not only is it a bad idea, it can be considered abusive and they should allow you to have appropriate outlets. Your parents may not be aware how down you are. Most of all, remember that no matter what, life IS worth living, you will turn 18, you can leave an overly controlling situation. Believe.
