Latin Homeschool Curriculum

Question: Reasons for learning Latin (encouraging my mom to let me study it)?
I'm currently homeschooled, and I was looking at studying Latin for fun as an elective. What are some good curricula to use? Has anyone ever learned Latin through homeschool or taught it to their daughter? My mom doesn't know the language herself, so it would have to be a curriculum that assumes no prior Latin knowledge. Thanks!
Also, what are recitations?
Answer: Easy enough to get a beginner's textbook that introduces you to the grammar, and a dictionary. [and look, you already know the plural of curriculum - good start. Plenty other nouns like that]
Good language to learn at home, as no-one has spoken it for so many centuries that you don't have to worry about pronunciation!
Most exam boards have guidelines or sample exam papers that are useful to look at.
Useful: Latin is the basis of Spanish, Italian, French, Romanian and Portuguese. It;ll be a huge help if you decide to learn one of these later. I did Latin at school, and foud learning Spanish as an adult SO easy as a result; it has helped with French too, but no so much. Plus there are so many words in English with Latin derivations, it'll help you if you develop an interest in etymology.
It does help you think logically - because you have to be alert to the endings of words to get the meaning of a sentence, it keeps making you think and that spills over into your other subjects.
Sorry, I've no idea what someone might mean by recitations - too many possibilities.
